Hamburger Hill, the 1987 film
Hamburger Hill (1987) is a war film directed by John Irvin and written by James Carabatsos. Paramount released it in the United States on 28 August 1987. It runs 110 minutes. Wikipedia lists a $6.5 million budget and $13.8 million in U.S. and Canada ticket sales. RT separately lists $11.4 million as Gross USA. These are different figures and territorial labels, not a reconciled total. Philip Glass wrote the score. The shoot was in the Philippines. RKO Pictures produced it with Paramount distributing.
Director John Irvin, the 28 August 1987 U.S. release, and 110-minute runtime agree between Wikipedia and Rotten Tomatoes, two independent publishing sources checked 2026-10-29. Other credits and the budget remain attributed to Wikipedia. The U.S. offers and $3.99 starting rental price are JustWatch-only evidence; the individual stores were not independently checked. I could not read the IMDb title page directly, so the 6.7 figure is quoted only as JustWatch labels it. I am not going to merge 100%, 64, and 6.7 into one “score.”

What the film covers
The story follows a platoon of the 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, in 1969. They are sent into the A Sầu valley to take Hill 937. Replacements join a veteran squad, the first contact costs people, and the hill is assaulted again and again in rain and friendly-fire confusion. Between fights the soldiers argue about the war at home, race, and the people they left behind. They take the summit at a cost the ending treats as hollow. That is the film’s shape. It is not a shot-by-shot transcript.
